Building Hope for Men in Need

Homelessness is on the rise, and Gateway Mission is responding by expanding our Men’s Center to better serve those in need. We are renovating the former Davenport University building at 643 S. Waverly Road to provide a larger, more effective facility for men seeking stability and restoration.

With this expansion, we will be enhancing services and capacity at the Women and Children’s Center on Fairbanks Avenue, ensuring greater support for vulnerable families.

Fall 2022 – In response to the rising trend of homelessness, Gateway Mission purchased the former Davenport University Holland Campus to transform it into the new Men’s Center.
Summer 2023 - Fundraising for the project began, rallying Gateway Mission supporters to make this vision a reality.
February 2025 – Demolition and renovations begin inside the facility.
Fall 2025 – Doors are set to open!

Why is Gateway Mission’s Men’s Center moving?

The need in our community has grown significantly in the last few years. Our current facility has served us well for over 30 years, but the time has come for a space that can meet the increasing demand and offer enhanced support.

When will the new Men’s Center open?

Construction is underway, and the Eastport Men’s Center is expected to open in late fall 2025.

This new facility will not only address immediate shelter needs but also equip men with life skills, vocational training, and the support necessary for long-term stability and success.

Will Gateway Mission still be accessible to those in need despite not being in downtown Holland?

Yes. Gateway Mission serves individuals from across Ottawa and Allegan Counties, many of whom travel for shelter and support. Our H.O.P.E. Team actively reaches out to those in need, encouraging them to seek refuge. The new location is also closer to our Gateway Center, where we offer long-term life-change programs, and near major employers eager to hire men seeking a fresh start.

Why is the new facility named Eastport?

The name Eastport reflects its location as our easternmost facility and symbolizes a safe harbor for those seeking refuge. "Port" represents a place of shelter and hope amid life's storms. Additionally, the building was formerly Davenport University and the name nods to its history as a place of learning and transformation.
